First outside capital,
on the founder's terms.

An investment partner founded by entrepreneurs, helping business owners reach their potential. Jim's own capital, invested alongside successful founders, an engaged partner and no fund clock deciding when to sell.

01

The mission

The mission of Childs Capital is to help owners and CEOs of growth-oriented services and technology companies optimize the value of their firm, and to create a situation for the entrepreneur that fits their life objectives.

The firm will “accompany” the owner and manager as they substantially increase the value of the business before a more formal exit to a private equity firm or strategic buyer.

02

First outside capital, and a plan for 3x+

Childs Capital will typically be the first outside capital into a company, and will develop a growth plan to increase the value of the business by 3x or more within two to five years.

Given Jim's background as an advisor, CEO and investor, plus select partners, the firm offers value-added input to owners and management: formalizing organization structure and succession plans, accessing better talent, making wise investments toward growth, and assembling an excellent board, which is unique for companies of this size.

Because Childs Capital, by design, does not have a fund with a fixed time frame, it has ample flexibility on hold period, subject to the wishes of the owner and management.

03

Structure

The typical structure is a minority equity investment of $3 million to $10 million. It can be larger with co-investors as needed.

In exchange, one of the firm's partners works closely with management and founders to develop a board, a management team and a strategy to rapidly increase the value of the business, in line with the goals of the founder, majority owner and management team.

Currently, Jim invests very selectively in companies where he can add meaningful value.

Built by founders to help founders reach their potential.

Founders weighing growth capital, partial liquidity or an eventual sale are welcome to reach Jim directly. So are the bankers and advisors who represent them.
